THE CITY MAYORALTY.

REQUEST TO MR. HUTCHISON. , DEPUTATION ON WEDNESDAY. An invitation to contest the city mayoralty at the municipal elections on May 6 will be made to Mr. G. W. Hutchison, a member of the City Council, by a deputation on Wednesday. It is believed Mr. Hutchison will not be averse to nomination.

Several names of prospective candidates for tho mayoralty have recently been mentioned, but two, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth and Mr. J. Alexander, appear in tho list of those arranging the deputation to Mr. Hutchison. A similar invitation was extended to Mr. Hutchison prior to the last municipal election, but he then expressed tho opinion that it was preferable for a Mayoral aspirant to have previous experience as a City Councillor. Mr. Hutchison, who is a public accountant, stood for the council in 1929, and was placed second on the list of the 21 successful candidates.

Tlioso arranging tho deputation to Mr. Hutchison include Sir George Fowlds, Messrs. J. Alexander, C. F. Bennett, R. Burns, Grey Campbell, F. T. Eyre, H. T. Goldie, A. Grayson, C. K. Grierson, W. J. Holdsworth, E. E. Kitchener, T. Mclndoe, F. L. Rendell and C. J. Tunks. If Mr. Hutchison accepts nomination lio will be the first candidate definitely in tlie field. The intentions of tho present Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, who is in his third term of office, have not been announced. Mr. Baildon is at present in Hamilton, but he indicated a few days ago that ho had not yet given consideration to the question of standing again.
