ELECTRICITY CUT OFF.

BIRD MAKES SHORT CIRCUIT. HAMILTON EAST SERVICE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPOKDKNT.] HAMILTON. Friday. Damage to the extent of £25 and considerable inconvenience were caused in Hamilton East on Wednesday morning bv the failure of the electrical service. An investigation showed that the trouble originated through a.sparrow alighting on a transformer.

The bird caused a short circuit between an 11,000-volt bus bar and the ironwork of the transformer. Five fuses were blown out and the main switches at the Hamilton East sub-station %vere tripped. The work of replacing the fuses occupied an hour and a-half.
