POLICE COURT NEWS.

THEFT OF A BATTERY. GROOM SENT TO PRISON. A charge of stealing a motor-car battery, valued at £8 10s, was admitted by John Fairley, aged 46, groom, in tho Polico Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accusod was seen carrying the battery, which ho had taken from a shop. The owner communicated with the police and accused was arrested. Accused dropped tho battery, causing damage estimated at £3. Sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed. Charged with committing mischief by wilfully damaging a gate to tho extent of ss, Robert Trevor Craig was ordered to pay costs and make good tho damage, a total of 18s.
