THEFT OF WHEELS.

ELDERLY FARMER FINED. COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE. "If this old man had told the truth in tho beginning, tho case would have been dismissed," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when William Arthur Fountain, aged 68, a farmer, of Henderson, was charged with stealing a wooden case and four iron wheels. Mr. Holmden, who appeared for accused, entered pleas of not guilty to both charges. Arthur Henry Pitt said he had been working at Henderson on a property where there were a number of tools and farm implements. On October 8 four iron wheels were missing, and three days later he noticed that a wooden case arid a grindstone had also disappeared. The wheels were found in accused's shed, and tho case in the yard on accused's property.

Accused said ho had found tho wheels in tho case outsido his home. Goods were often left thero for other residents further down the street. Accused was convicted and fined £2 and costs.
