Hoihoma was allowed to run along a, couple of furlongs down tho back under a strong pull. Leitrim, revelling in the soft going, reolod oft four furlongs in 545, To Hoia and To Homai finished together after running six furlongß in 1.30. Both of 4hcso horses wero under a sfoady pull. All Soult camo homo from tho four fur-long-poßt in 513. Air King had a slight advantago over Thurnus, who was troubled by the heavy ground, at tho end of six furlongs in 1.22. Jlluminagh loci Valmario over three furlongs in 435. Protomint and Day Lass woro associated over six furlongs occupying 1.21}, with Protomint showing to moro advantage. Tho successful Awapuni apprentice W. Broughton has been engaged to rido To Homai, Hoihouia, Trishna, Sea Cob, Tenakoe and Perennis iu their engagements at To Rapa 011 Saturday. A. Tinker will bo on Pegaway. J. W. Day will rido Snow Lap, Teelcs, Eager Rose, Honiton and Voliinond. Tho track not being suitable. Sir Kay and Trishna aro unlikely starters at Tc Rapa on Saturday. HAWKE'S BAY NEWS. RECOVERY OF SHREWD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HASTINGS, Thursday. Tho trainer G. Jones, who two or three months ago had somo idea of settling in Auckland, lias now decided to remain in Hawkc's Bay. Ho has secured stables at Greenmcadows and will shortly be training ono or two horses for clients. Nimble, tv threo-year-old filly by Lord Qucx —Chancery, will form ono of tho toam. Miss M. J. Douglas is sonding to J. Griffiths a threo-year-old filly by Lord Quox —Tarere. tho latter by Sim Fran—Black Ella. Tho filly, who is n half-sister to Maunga and Ivaokaoroa, is well grown, with plenty of substance. Shrowd is now practically all right nnd has been doing slow work on the track. His ownor, Mr. A. Symes, was unlucky in not being able to give him a run in tho New Zealand Cup. Shrowd ran fourth in tho Auckland Cup last year, but has not been nominated this year. STUD ITEMS. . g Tho brood mare Spanglo, sister to Marsa, tho dam of 'Nightmnrch, has foaled a colt to Diacaueuod. Spanglo was formerly owned by Mr. F. Earl, K.C., and was sold by him to Mr. G. A.
