TROTTING AT EPSOM.

WORK ON CINDER TRACK. MIGNONNE DISPLAYS DASH. MAN O' BELLE IMPROVING. Owing to heavy rain overnight, all work at Epsom yesterday was undertaken on the cinder track. The footing was fairly good, but times were not fast 011 account of the distance post 3 on the shorter clay circuit being in use. Benefice was first out and stepped ft mile and a-half in 3.55, the last half being run in 1.13. Tiger Salvo and Parrish Belle were given useful tasks but did not attempt timemaking. Parrish Belle still carries a light appearance, but trotted solidly. Golden Jluia gave a much better display than Mokopuna, who broke up badly thre£ times, over two circuits. Golden Huia Burprised by running two furlongs along the back in 3Gs. Two miles was Goldman's portion, and he infused a lot of dash into his effort. "With the sting out of tho ground he is still a possibility for a short race. Logan's Pride and Margaret Wallace hopped away from tho 12-furlong post. With a mile covered in 2.55, Margaret Wallace was cased up, Logan's Pride coming in alone over tho last half in. 1.13. Tho Abbey was allotted a sound task over two miles. lie was allowed to take matters easily, with a dash over the final four furlongs in I.IG. Warplane and Ben Bingen. Worplane paced resolutely over several circuitß in company with Ben Bingen. Over tho last hnlf-mile Warplano was going solidly to register 1.11, Ben Bingen taking 1.15. Linnctt tho Groat went away steadily from tho two-milo disc, reaching the first half in 1.27, when Man o' Belle joined in several lengths in advance. Tho milo took 2.44, and Man o' Belle was still well clear at tho 12-furlongs post in 4m. Linnett the Great was bustled along to finish the two miles in 5.15, but failed to catch Man o' Belle who is on tho improve. A mile was assigned to Queen Elizabeth. Sho went over the first half in 1.19, and then incrcaaod tho speed to record 2.30 for the full distance. Mignonne started from the 12-furlongs post and ran her first half in 1.22, reaching tho milo in 2.40. The paco was then increased and Mignonne came homo tho final half in I.lo—the best half of the morning. Maid of tlio Mountains and Kewpie's Triumph wcro paired off over a milo and a-half, but were not asked for any spgeial effort. Kewpie'a Triumph is a vastlyimproved paccr. Nella Dillon Works Well. Nclla Dillon jumped nivay from the mile and a-guarter mark, and offer covering eight furlongs in 2.39 wna cased up. She did her work in good style. Direct Action went steadily over a milo and a-half. running tho final half in 1.18.' Tho old trotter mado two mistakes, but lost little ground. Whakaliihi and Carnui wero associated over a milo and a-half, run in 3.57, tho last half in 1.15, Carnui finishing 3s in front of Whakaliihi, who bobblcd badly on tho turns. Anaelino was worked two miles and trotted faultlessly. Her best effort was over tho third half-mile, which took 1.18. Anselino has never looked in brighter'condition. Mountain Dell, unhopplcd, paced steadily over a distance. Sho appeared anxiouß to clap 011 tho speed toward tho finish, but her driver kept her under restraint. Dan Direct, unhopplcd, showed ft good turn of speed over tho concluding stages of a. three-lap effort, but left his feet nftcr going iv fast nuarter. The roan is not too oolid when extended without the straps. . LINDBERGH, MOUNTAIN DELL. PREVIOUS MEETING RECALLED. Jtißt over 12 months ago Lindbergh and Mountain Dell met at Claudclands over two miles, and while Lindbergh was conceding tho Auckland maro 36 yards ho beat her comfortably at tho finish. Without attempting to detract from tho meritorious performance of Lindbergh, he caught Mountain Dell at a disadvantage, as sho had contracted a cold on tho eve of the meeting, which affected her over tho final stages of the raco. Such progress has Mountain Dell made since that timo that sho is now assessed on tho same mark as Lindbergh, nnd, while G. S. Donald's candidate has a record of 4.2G 3-5 against tho local pacer's 4.33, there is 110 Euaranleo that 110 will beat Mountain Dell when next they meet. Mountain Dell has this season proved herself a greatlyimproved pacer, and her winning sequence does not yot appear to havo reached its limit. Another meeting betweon this pair will bo interesting, but Epsom followers will bo prepared to support tho local maro to turn tho tables on her previous . con-, queror. AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. Paul has his toam looking in great heart and Great Peter, who lightened up considerably as ft result of tho racing in tho heavy going last month, has brightened up .considerably.
