DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.

Four bushmen who were living in ai house at Puketui lost the whole of their belongings, with the exception of a small quantity of bedding, when the house caught fire yesterday. The four men were away working in the bush, a cook being the only person on the premises. Hie cook' went away from the house for a short while, and on his return found that the building was in flames. He was unable Hiirself to do more than save a little bedding, as there was no handy water supply, and the house was destroyed.
The owner was Mr. J. Croft, of Puketui. The house had not been occupied by him for some time, the building having been used by men who were at work in the bush.
HOUSE AT STRATFORD. NOTHING SAVED FROM FLAMES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] STRATFORD, Friday. A six-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mr. P. Aitken, was destroyed by; fire last night. The alarm was not given until the house was burning fiercely, and tho brigade could do nothing. The house was insured for £SOO in the Phoenix Office and the furniture for £3OO in the same office.
