PLAY AT PAPATOETOE.

AMATEUR SOCIETY'S SUCCESS A three-act play entitled " The Happy Ending " was produced by members of the Papatoetoo Literary, Debating and Dramatic Society in tho Public Hall, Papatoetoo, on Thursday evening before a large audience. The acting revealed a high standard of excellence and showed tho ability of the society to stage plays of a quality which are frequently beyond tho power of amateur players. The leading characters were played by Mr. E. 11. Burton, as Sir Anthony Fenwick, Mr. William Met aria nd, as Data Conway, and Miss Lulu Hunter, as Mildred Craddock. Each of theso gave an excellent interpretation of their parts, the acting of Miss Hunter being exceptionally good in a heavy and difficult role.. Feeling and understanding were shown in all the characters, which were taken by:—Mr. Mervyn French, Mr. Norman Hicks, Miss Margaret McFarland, Miss Doreen De Ath, Miss Joyce Knight, Miss Mabel Bryant, Mr. Percy French, Mr. Shirley Snelling, Miss Dulcio Grinter and Miss Margaret McFarland. The play was staged and produced hy Mr C J. Mahon, president of the society, with Mr- E. H. Burton, as general secretary, Mr. J. Greenhough as business manager, and Miss Sutton as costume mistress. The'overture and a number of selections were played by an orchestra under the direction of Mrs. A. J. Collings.
