TESTING DAIRY HERDS.
SATISFACTORY RETURNS. [BY TET.EGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Friday. .A satisfactory period is being experienced by the New Zealand Co-operative Herd Testing Assoeiatioh in spite of the prevailing conditions. There are at present in operation 70 groups, comprising 1734 herds, compared with 71 groups totalling 1844 herds last season. Although the number of herds tinder test has decreased by 110, it is expected that the average number of cows per herd, which last season was 48.2, will increase to at least 50. The result will he. that approximately the same number of cows.
about 91.000. will ho under test. During August 4000 more cows were tester! than during the corresponding month of last year. A decrease in the number of herds tested on alternate months has also been recorded.
