PINNED UNDER HORSE.
ANIMAL DROPS DEAD. GIRL'S ORDEAL IN CREEK. MOTORIST EFFECTS RESCUE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOtfIKI. Wednesday. A fortunate escape from drowning was experienced by Avice Parkinson, aged 9 years, when returning home from school. The girl, who rides an old horse, took the animal to a creek alongside Waioeka Road to let it drink. When the horse had finished it started to back on to the road, but suddenly it fell dead in the water. The girl was pinned by one leg and was quite unable to free herself. She had great difficulty in keeping her head above water and was practically unconscious when Mr. S. Fisher arrived in a motor-car and released the girl from her precarious position. If tho rescue had been much longer delayed the girl would undoubtedly have lost her life. When rescued she was suffering greatly from tho cold.
