Following is a list of yesterday's transactions on New Zealand Stock Exchanges, rit (lie second column is given the return based on the last dividend, from investment at the quoted price. DUNEDIN EXCHANGE. Tho following eiiles took pluce.—-Okarito, 7a (1) LEAD AND ZINC INDUSTRY. THE IMPERIAL CORPORATION. DIVIDEND OF 5 PER CENT. (Received September 04. 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 23. Tho report of tho Imperial Smelting Corporation shows a net profit of £196,012. in addition to which a balance of £35.360 was brought into the account at tho beginning of' tho year Dividends have been declared of 5 per cent, on the ordinary shares and 6g per cent, on the preference shares.

This is (he first report of (he corporation, which was formed last year by the reconstruction of the National Smelting Company. Tho latter, originally a private concern and converted into a public company in 1923, was formed during the war, with tho assistance of the. co-operation of tho British Government, in order to increase tho production of spelter (zinc) in Britain, which before tho war was dependent upon foreign supplies for nearly tlnee-quartcrs of its requirements. It was stated -last year that the company is firmly established, and reconstruction was necessary to enable it to widen the scope of its activities. Tho now company has a capital of -£7,500,000. Prominent participants in it includo tho Burma Corporation, South Broken Hill, North Broken Ilill, the Electrolytic Zinc Company of Australia, tho Zinc Corporation, and the British Metal Corporation. Tho chairman of tho company is Sir Robert Ilorne. The company has works at, Avonmouth and Swansea for the roasting and smelting of ores and concentrates, and tho manufacture of sulphuric acid and metals, chiefly spelter' and lead, and has interests in associated and kindred industries within tho Empire. The last accounts of tho National Smelting Company, for the year ended December 31, 1928, showed a profit of £184,212. Dividends of 10 per cent, on both ordinary and preference shares wero paid. Provision was also mado for dividends at tho samo rato for the half year to June 30, 1929.

SLUM? IN WHEAT PRICES. WINNIPEG QUOTATIONS. POOL'S DENIAL OF RUMOUR. WINNIPEG, Sept. 23. Wheat prices at Winnipeg to-day slumped after the opening of the market owing to a rumour, which was quickly denied, that the Canadian wheat pool was m a shaky financial condition and would be taken over by the Western Provincial Governments. October futures closed at 73J cents n bushel, a record low level for 24 years. November closed at 74 5-8 cents, December at 75 7-8 cents and May at 82 5-8 cents. SITUATION IN UNITED STATES. WHEAT AS CATTLE FEED. WASHINGTON, Sept. 23. The chairman of the United Slates Farm Board, Mr. A. Legge. commented on tho wheat situation to-day.
