LATE SIR MAUI POMARE.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS. SERVICE AT WELLINGTON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Arrangements have been made that after the arrival in Wellington on Monday of the ashes of the late Sir Maui Pomare a memorial service will be held at St. Paul's pro-Cathedral. It will be conducted by Bishop Sprott, assisted by Canon Wilfred Williams, of Wanganui, superintendent of Maori church work in the Wellington Diocese, and some of tha Maori clergy in . the Wellington district. After the service the casket will be removed to the vestibule of Parliament; House where it will lie in state. Tha natives of Porirua and Wanganui have asked for calls to-be made at those places before the remains are interred at Waitara, but it has been found impossible to accede to the request. The arrangements for the transport of the casket to Waitara remain as previously announced. A special train will leave Wellington on Thursday night, pick up Lady Pomare and tho casket at Waikanae and proceed to Waitara, arriving early the next morning. Several members of the Legislature have intimated their desire to., attend the obsequies. VThe Government will be represented by Sir Apirana Ngata and Colonel Smith, M.L.C. PREPARATIONS FOR TANGI. • ACTIVITIES AT WAITARA, • [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. Elaborate preparations are being made at the historic Manakorihi Pa at Waitara for the tangi on the arrival of Sir Maui Pomare's ashes and the interment at the pa. Maoris are expected to be present from all parts of the Dominion in great numbers and special arrangements will-b8 made for their accommodation and victualling. Tho Native Department is pro? viding tents and cooking ntensils. A commencement was made this morning with the excavation for the vault in the 'precincts of the Manakorihi meeting house, where the remains will be placed. Above it a memorial stone will later stand, and travellers on the main load will see on ' high grounds the restingplace of one who rendered much service to his country.
