DAMAGE BY FIRE.
TWO SEASIDE HOUSES.
BOTH BUILDINGS DESTROYED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] DARGAVILLE, Friday. A fire at Bayly's Gorge, a seaside resort some seven miles from Dargaville, destroyed two houses, the property of Mrs. John Finlayson and Mr. Samuel Barker, at a late hour last night. The glare was noticed in town by motorists who had been attending a meeting. They went out and found Finlayson's house well ablaze and Mr. Barker's partially alight. Part of the contents of the latter was saved, but both houses, owing to lack of water supplies, are a total loss. Adjoining houses, although scorched, wero not damaged. The insurance on each house was £2OO, held in the Alliance and Commercial Union Offices respectively. FARMER'S HOME BURNED. nothing saved from flames. A partially-completed house at Maungakaramea was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. It was being built for Mr. P. Halliday, who was away working on the farm out of sight of the homestead,. when" Mrs. Halliday arrived with afternoon tea. On returning they found the houso was burning and nothing could bo saved. Tliore was no insurance jii the house or contents.
