The New Zealand League footballers played their last match of the Australian tour to-day against Australian Universities. Play in the first half favoured the New Zealanders, the spell ending with the visitors leading by eight points to two. The Now Zealanders prevailed for the greater portion of the second half, .but just before the finish Universities scored two tries and two goals. The final scora was:— New Zealanders s« ,s. 18 Universities .. 12 The local team missed several chances through faulty passing. Broadfoofc (Queensland) broke his collarbone. The best players for the winners were:—Calder, Stephenson, Clark, Amos, Abbott, Seagar and Duftv. Universities were awarded 19 free kicks and New Zealand four. The visitors were guests at a university ball this evening. They are to sail oh Friday for the Dominion. The general opinion is that the team was very unlucky on the tour, but it completed its itinerary and won the three last- matclics in fairly convincing style.

Members of the British Rugby team who visited Blenheim for the final match of the New Zealand tour yesterday, re- . turned to Wellington last night. The visitors are now' busily engaged in preparing lor their. departure for Australia on Friday. They appreciate the opportunity for a rest, the tour having been a strenuous one. All speak well of the hospitality extended to them throughout the tour. Among the final functions in which the visiting footballers are to participate is the Oriental Football Club's dance in St. Francis' Hall to-night, Mr. J. Baxter, the manager, having accepted j the club's invitation to the team. The team is to be officially fayewelled by the New Zealand Rugby Union at a function on Friday, when each of the tourists will be presented with a New Zealand travelling rug. _ , S. A. Martindale, who has been receiving treatment in a. private hospital, was back with the party to-day.
