CAMPAIGN IN AUCKLAND.

MOTORISTS ADOPT SCHEME. CO-OPERATION WITH POLICE. A comprehensive scheme (or the promotion of safety on tho roads will shortly bo put into operation by tho Auckland Automobile Association. A scheme drawn up by tho touring manager was adopted by the council of tho association lust evening. Tho campaign will bo extended over six months and at the end of that period tho posi'ion will bo terovicwcd and some definite and permanent schemo inaugurated. The report suggested that the police and local bodies should bo asked to institute a vigorous campaign by stopping motorists and issuing a warning in cases of minor breaches of the regulations. Particular attention would bo paid to failure to givo tho correct signals, indistinct signals, cutting corners, cutting in, incorrect- parking, overtaking and passing another vehicle on a corner where visibility is obscured, and other breaches of a similar nature. It was recommended that the erection of danger signs indicating concealed dangers and points where accidents occur frequently, should be expedited. Tne report said this should' be the means of preventing a large number of accidents where cars leave tho road on corners, and would safeguard road users in unfamiliar country. Tho report staled that other means of giving publicity to the schemo would bo by means of articles in tho newspapers, radio talks, newspaper advertising, posters in schools and by an extension of the association's headlight facilities.
