POLICE COURT NEWS.

THEFT FROM EMPLOYER. YOUTH PLACED ON PROBATION. Described as a farm labourer, Cyril Arthur Rankin, aged 18, appeared in the Police Court yesterday on a charge of stealing £6 in money from his employer. Sub-Inspector Shanahnn stated that the. youth obtained a position in the Pukckoho district, and while alone, in his employer's house sole six £1 bank-notes irom a bedroom. When arrested he had only 12s Cxi in his possession, lie had been before the Court onco previously, two years ago, when ho was convicted at Otahuliu on a minor charge of wilful damage. On the recommendation of Mr. \Y. .1. Campbell, probation officer, the magistrate, Mr. L<\ K. Hunt, placed Rankin on probation for two years and ordered him to make restitution. Charged with being idle and disorderly and with habitually consorting with reputed thieves Cyril Wilfred Geary, aged 32, plasterer (Mr. Bryco Hart), Was remanded for a week, bail being fixed at £SO. A fine of £2, with Iho alternative ot seven days' imprisonment was imposed on William Andrew Keane, aged 50, seaman, who admitted assaulting James Felix. The offence took place in the bar of a city hotel on Tuesday afternoon. Fourteen days' imprisonment was the sentence passed on Alexander Moore, convicted of being found without lawful excuse on enclosed premises. On a second- chargo of being drunk in a public place he was convicted without penalty. It was stated that ho had been beforo the Court three times previously this year. A charge, of obtaining credit by fraud was admitted by Harry Farmer, who was remanded until Saturday for sentence. It was stated that on Sunday accused hirod a taxi to tuke him to Mauku, and failed to pay the fare, which amounted to £3 15s.
