BETTER MAIL SERVICES.
HAURAKI PLAINS DISTRICT. MANY PROPOSALS IN VIEW. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TILVMES, Tuesday. A considerable expansion of tho llau raki Plains rural mail services controlled from 1 hamcs is in courso of preparation A new daily service will run from Ngatoa along the Puhanga Canal Road, tho Ngarua Road and the Tramway Road, a distanco of 18 miles. This will servo 50 settlers. At present thero is no bridgo over the Piako River that will enable tho servico to be extended to Kaihoro, but it is hoped that tho provision of a ferry will allow this township to be included. The new servico will roplace tho present ouo which operates from Ohinewai and will lead to tho closing of tho Torchapo post office. Another service proposed is a circular delivery from Waitakaruru through Mangatarata. A petition is in circulation and has been well signed. This would servo a great number of settlers, and, with the metalling scheme which will bo put under way by the Hauraki Plains County Council early in the spring, the servico should soon be an accomplished fact. Other improvements are contemplated in tho district and should resalt in much better services to settlors on tho Hauraki Plains.
