WORK AFTER EARTHQUAKE.
MURCHISON AND GREYMOUTH CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COBRESrONDENT.] NELSON. Tuesday. At present there are about 750 men employed on public works in the Nelson district, of whom 300 arc working on the Nelson Murchison railway construction. There aro 105 on tho Tophouse Road, and 120 on the Roiiga Valley to Croixelles Road. The remainder are employed on the Riwaka to Sandy Bay Road, Canaan track, restoration of roads in the Maruia, and metalling tho Murchison-Lyell highway as far as tho eight-niilo post. Earthquake restoration work ou the Murchison-Lyell Road is making good progress. The Nelson boundary section has been completed, but in tho Greymouth area a largo amount of work is required on a section of tho road known as tho " Red Jacket." where nearly a mile of rock faco was shattered and tho load completely obliterated. However, it is expected that tho road will bo opened in a month or two. At present it is possiblo to get through on foot only.
