VESSEL IN DISTRESS.
ENGINE FAILS OFF JAVA. RUNNING BEFORE A GALE. SYDNEY. July 2*. The Dutch s>l cam it Sumatra, a single screw vessel which trades between Holland and Java, is disabled through engine trouble, and is being driven before a gale oft the coast of Java. A long series of S.O.S. calls has been picked up at Sydney. The steamer has a, crew of 60 men 011 board.
'['lie Sumatra is a voasol of »850 lons, built in 1907 at Flushing, and owned bv the Xederland Steam Ship Company, of Amsterdam.
