The 10th Earl of Egtnont. fonnerly Frederick J. T. lYrcevol, is 56 years of ;ige. He is ;i distant kinsman of the late earl and was farming in Canada when he succeeded to the title in January, 1929. He is married to the daughter of a Montreal resident, and they have one son. He wjis only distantly related to the ninth earl, who was born in New Zealand, and who died in England on .January 11, 1929. Mount Egtnont, in New Zealand, was named by Captain Cook after the second earl, a prominent politician in the time of George 11.. and from 1761 to 1766 First Lord of the .Admiralty. Nothing less romantic in the history of the peerage can be" imagined than the homecoming of the new earl to the family estate at Avon Castle, Hampshire, in March, 1929. A reporter was the only person who met him at the station at Uingwood. "Ain't there anybody here from the castle?" asked the earl as he stepped on to the platform. "When told that there was not. he thrust his hands into his pockets and said: "Well, I daresay I ain't wanted much here. Where will I stav?" ,
The reporter conducted (lie carl to a hotel, where he said: "I want a lot of sleep. 1 hate people, men and women. I have been too bothered." -Asked when he was going to the castle he said: "Well, I guess 1 will not crowd in to-night. I will take a shack here until to-morrow." and so saying he disappeared into the .small hotel.
