DEFENCE CONFERENCE.
DISCUSSION BY OFFICERS.
MEETING AT WELLINGTON. [itY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Monday. Senior officers of (ho defence forces will meet in conference at Wellington tomorrow morning to discuss a scheme of military training for the coming year The conference has been convened bv the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J G. Cobbc, who stated to-day that he wished to confer with the heads of the Defence organisation before laying his proposals before Parliament
Some weeks ago, the Minister promised a meeting of defence ofiiecrs that before effect was given to any proposals for an amended military training scheme, the. opinions of tho principal officers would be sought.
DECISION BY SIGNALLERS. TRAINING AS VOLUNTEER. A decision to carry on training 011 a voluntary basis until tho Government's future policy is announced was made In a well-attended (netting of officers and non-commissioned officers of the Northern Depot, Corps of Signals The actual numbe; of volunteers was in excess oi the cadre strength of the unit Captain G 11 Scull, officoi commandiiii tho depot, thanked those present for thei/ past support and expressed his appiecia t'ion ol the esprit do corps shown by the response to the call for volunteers.
