NINETY-THIRD BIRTHDAY.
MRS. MARTIN, OF PAPAKURA.
One of the oldest residents of Auckland, Mrs. Joseph Martin, will celebrats her 93rd birthday to-morrow at the residence of her son, the Rev. J. F. Martin, Methodist minister at Papakura. In spite of her great age, Mrs. Martin still retains good health and spirits and attends divine service whenever the weather is fine. She travels perhaps more than is usual for one of her years, having lived at Onehunga, Devonport and Papakura in three successive years. She visited Hamilton last summer to spend a few weeks with another son, Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P. for Raglan.
Born at Belfast. Mrs. Martin went to Melbourne in 1854 and eight years later landed at Dunedin. Her husband was a lay preacher in the Methodist Church in the Otago district and she accompanied him in his early travels in the province. She came to Auckland over 32 years ago and has lived here ever since. Mr. Martin died about 18 years ago. There are seven sons, 34 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
