REFORMATIVE DETENTION.
YOUNG MAN BEFORE COURT. THEFT AND FALSE PRETENCES. Sentence of reformative detention for n period not to exceed two years was passed on Sidney Gordon Ross, aged 20. labourer, who appeared in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., on charges of failing to comply with (ho terms of his probation order, obtaining L 5 by means of a valueless cheque, and stealing a bicycle valued at £4. There were five other charges of theft and falso pretences, involving money and goods to the value of £3B 9s 3d. Mr. Sneddon, who represented accused, entered a plea of guilty. Chief-Detective Hammond said in February accused wns placed on probation for theft, unci tho probation officer had not seen him since that time.
