WRESTLING CONTEST.
LUNDYN DEFEATS KHAN. TWO FALLS TO WINNER. GOOD, LIVELY EXHIBITION. Ramzan Khan, tho Indian wrestler, made his first appearance in Auckland last evening when he was defeated by Alex. Lundyn, champion of Finland, bv two falls, one in tho fourth round and one in tho fifth. Tho contestants were comparatively light-weights and the bout was devoid of tho action' which has characterised tho contosts between the heavier men seen in action in tho Town Hall previously this year. The Indian was conceding about half a stono in weight and, although ho gave a clever exhibition, Lundyn always appeared to hold tho upper hand. Tho bout opened in lively fashion wilh falls and counter falls. Lundyn was then thrown with a wrisllock, but 110 freed himself cleverly. Body presses troubled tho Finn, but ho broke his falls cleverly. Tho Indian earned applause for escaping from a hammerlock. A head scissors and arm bar had Lundyn struggling, but bo replied with a toe-hold. "An Aeroplane Spin." Early in the second round Lundyn secured a short-arm scissors, but Khan was not long in wriggling away. The Indian next freed himself from an awkward body scissors and armbar. Lundyn was tho aggressor and nearly secured a fall with a body scissors and arrnlock. The Finn had a head scissors and toe-hold, but Khan held his opponent with a full nelson at the gong. The Indian commenced the third round with a wrisllock throw and then escaped from a head scissors and armbar. Lundyn excited tho crowd with an aeroplane spin, but there was much laughter when he placed his opponent gently down on tho mat. Lundyn then narrowly missed wilh a leg-hold -'d body press. Soon after tho opening of tho fourth round, Khan had iiis opponent on the mat wilh an armbar, but Lundyn quickly reversed tho position and succeeded in pinning tho Indian with an armbar and body press. Tho fifth round had scarcely begun when Lundyn secured a similar hold on the Indian and, forcing his shoulders to tho mat, put the result beyond doubt. Amateur Preliminaries.
Feather-weight.—Babu, fist., beat C. Anderson, Bst. 121b., on points. Both worked liard throughout and in tho seeond caused a good denl of excitement by going through tho ropes and failing off tho platform to tho floor. The bout, was very hard and Anderson was taken from tho ring with a rib injury. Light-weight.—W. Williamson, 9st. 'llb., and L. Pickering, 9st. 71b., drew with ;i fall each. Williamson gained a fall in tho second round with an annlock and body press. Pickering obtained a fail from a body press in the third round. Middle-weight.—W. lfyatt, lOst. 131b., beat B. Smith, lOst. 101b., by one fall. In tho third round Hyatt gained a fall when ho lifted and dumped his opponent. Catch-woight.—J. Simpson, list. 71b., beat J. Cliff, list. 41b., by ono fall. Simpson secured a headlock and fall in tho opening round. Tho bout was lively with Simpson, New Zealand middle-weight champion, showing some scientific work.
WALKER DEFEATS EBERT. TWO FALLS SECURED. [by telegraph.—mess association.] WELLINGTON. Monday. In the wrestling match this evening Ceorge Walker (lost. 71b.) defeated the Austrian, F. Ebert (14st.), by two falls secured in the seventh and eight round. The Town Hail was crowded.
Ebert appeared to be. suffering from the effects of the first, fall.
