CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUED. SURPRISE AT MORRINSVILLE. Te Awamutu. —In tho Waipa Union competitions, played ftt headquarters on Saturday chief interest coutrcd in the senior contest between the old rivals, Te Awamutu and Hovers. A very keen contest eventuated, but tho ball was too greasy for open play. Rovers won by 8 (a try by Loomb converted by C. Pollard, and a try by Jones), to 0. Mr. R. Callis waa roferee. This is the first game Terriers have won this season and the crowd gave Terriers applause at the end of the game. Kereone still leads in the championship. Tauranga.--The Tauranga Rugby Union's cup championships were continued this afternoon. In the Jordan Cup, senior grade, Huimai defeated Athletics by 18 points to 6. Two tries for the -winners were scored by K. McLeod. Farmer converted btae try, kicked two penalty goals and dropped a field goal. For. Athletics Tassell and Hamilton scored. Tli3 Te Puna team defaulted to Cadets Old Boys. In the junior grade ■High School beat Cadets Old Boys by 12 to 3 and Athletics defeated Huimai by 11 to C. Te. Puke.—Tho Rugby competitions wore continued to-day under favourable conditions. United. 10, defeated Pongakawa, 8, on the call of time with a field kick by Cameron. Papsmoa scored a decisive victory over Rangiora- by 10 points to 3. Dargaville.—There was very little interest in local football to-day, most of the enthusiasts staying at home to listen in to tho test game.
