In tho British open golf championship tho following were the leading scores among those who qualified at Hoylake today for tho last two rounds to-morrow: — Bobby Jones (United States), 70, 72—142; Robson, 71, 72—143; Horton Smith (United States), 72, 73—145; Compston, 74, 73—147; Rodgcrs 147; Macdonald Smith, 70, 77, Leo Diegel, 74, 73, Don Moe, 74, 73 (all United States), all 147; Barnes, 71, 76—147; Cotton, 70, 78, Alliss, 75, 73, C. A. Whitcombe, all 148; Boyer (France), 73, 77, 11. A. Whitcombo, 74, 76—150; E. R. Whitcombe, 152; Abo Mitchell, 75, 78, 153; Hirigoyan (France), 154; C. J. Tolley, 84, 71—155. Contrary to expectations, it was Robson who made tho most heroic effort against the fierce American attack on the golf championship. Ho played so well that be only required fours for the last two boles to equal Jones' score, but he missed a 6ft. putt. Cotton lias not lived up iS expectations, owing to an attack of hooking i and tho hopes of a British victory now centre on Compston.

F. Robson, who was one stroke behind Bobby Jones, is professional at Cooden Beach Club, near Bexhill, Sussex. He was second, ccjual with Boomer, in tho open championship of 1927 at St. Andrews, which was won by Bobby Jones. He played for England against America in 1927 and 1923.
