WOMAN FOUND DROWNED.
BODY IN WAIKATO RIVER.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday.
The body of Mrs. Jessie Mayes, a widow, aged 30, who had been missing from her home in Grey Street, Hamilton East, sinca the evening of June 4, was recovered by the police from the Waikato River a short distance below the railway bridge at 1.30 p.m. to-day. An inquest concerning the death was held later before the coroner, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, in Hamilton. Evidence was given that Mrs. Maves was seen in Victoria Street walking in the direction of tho bridge about nine o'clock on the evening of June 4. A witness said he heard a loud splash and muffled moans from the railway bridge about 9.20 p.m.
The police stated that (he watch on deceased's wrist was. found to have stopped at 9.23 p.m. The coroner returned an open verdict, the cause of death being drowning.
