BRIEF ROMANCE ENDS.
POSTAL WOOING OF S.O.S. GIRL.
MAN'S MOTHER INTERVENES.
The dramatic conclusion of a correspondence romance between a girl and young man in England has been revealed. Tho girl is Ethel Kearman, aged 20, of Gateshead, and the man, who for two months wooed her by post, is Leslie Alfred Hinton, aged 25, of Worthing. He is well known locally, where he plies for private hire with bis own car. A "few weeks ago Miss Kearman sent out an " S.O.S. ".through the Lord Mayor of Newcastle for a husband who could make her happy by bearing the expense of an operation ■to restore her mother's sight. From the list of replies Miss Kearman selected Leslie Hinton, and it was arranged that she should visit Worthing recently-to meet him. A day or two later, however, Mr. Hinton's mother learned of the romantic correspondence, and decided - that the affair must end. "I had no idea this was going on," she said. "I have told Leslie to write to her asking for the return of the letters and photographs, and sending back to her tho letters and photographs sent to him." On the way down the street the writer of the story met her son on the way to his garago. Ho seemed rather distressed. "Now my mother knows all about it," ho said, " I am going to write to- Miss Kearman and tell her it must all end. Apart from that, I cannot say anything more. The whole thing is now in the hands of my motbor."
