PEDESTRIAN KNOCKED DOWN

INSTANTANEOUS DEATH.

FATALITY IN KHYBER PASS

A fatal accident occurred in Khyber Pass Road, near llio corner of Maungawhati Road, a few minutes before six o'clock last evening, Mr. Arthur Reginald Sloman, residing at 200, Khyber Pass, being struck by a motor-car as lie stepped off the kerb to cross the road and being killed instantaneously.

The motor-car, which was driven by Mr. John Fleming, of 342, Grafton Road, was travelling up Khyber Pass toward tho city. Mr. Sloman, who was walking on the footpath on the same side of the road, stepped off the kerb to cross the road to his homo further down on the other side, and was struck by the car. He was thrown heavily to the concrete road, receiving injuries to the head and a fracture "f the right leg. while his neck also appeared to ho broken.

The St. John Ambulance was summoned, and Dr. Neil McDougall was called. On his arrival he certified that tho man was dead. It was some tirno before Mr. Sloman was identified, as thoro was nothing in his pockets to show his name or address, lie was aged about 65 years, and leaves a wife and three grown-up children. Mr. Sloman was a gardener by occupation.
