BUTTER MARKET STEADY.

CHEESE PRICES IMPROVE.

FURTHER' MOVEMENT EXPECTED.

Reports from merchants at the close of business, at the end of last week indicate that the London market for New Zealand butter is again steady at a slightly lower level than that existing at the end of tho previous week. Finest butter is quoted at 133s to 1345, compared with 136s to 138s on April 25. Cheese continues to make good headlv-ay and although the prices ruling in London on Friday were 2s higher than the previous week's quotations, somo merchants are confident of further improvement.

The Bank of New Zealand has received tho fallowing cablegram from its London office as at tho close of business last week:—Butter: Quiet, 133s to 1345. Cheese: Steady, white, 82s to 83s; coloured, 86s to 87s.

Leonard and Son, Limited, has received the following cablegram from Mr. A. C. Rowson, London, dated May 2:—Butter: New Zealand, finest, 1355; first grade, 131s. The demand is slow and the market weak. The outlook is uncertain owing to Danish selling at 130s. Cheese: New Zealand, white, 81s to 82s; coloured, 875.. The demand is slow and tho market firm. An improvement is anticipated. Deliveries: New Zealand and Australian, 24,857 crates; Canadian, 2379 boxes. Stock: New Zealand and Australian, 130,138 crates; Canadian, 100,609 boxes.

Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London houso, dated May 3:—Butter: Finest, pricq unchanged, 140s. General trade still very quiet. Danish, 136s spot; 127s f.o.b. Bather weak. Deliveries: New Zealand, 1365 tons. Stock: 9945 tons. Retails unchanged. Cheese: Markqt very quiet. Majority asking: White, 84s; coloured, 88s. Retails advancing Monday to lid.

Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, has received tho following cablegram from its London house, dated May 3:—

Butter, 1325. The market is again steady. Cheese: White, 82-s; coloured, 86s. Mar ket steady.
