THURLSTONE INJURED

NOT TO RACE AT RANDWICK.

The crack Victorian two-year-old Thurlsfono will not. race at the Australian Jockey Club's meeting this month. While working at Rnndwick on Tuesday of last, week he injured a kneo and ho was sent back to Melbourne last Friday. Thurlstone's injury is extremely bad luck, as his meeting with tho best of the Sydney youngsters in tho Sires' Produce Stakes and tho Champagne Stakes would have been one of the attractions of tho Rnndwick meeting. Thurlstouo haß had five runs this season for three wins, and two minor placings and hns earned more than £6300 in stakes. At present ho is tho leading stake-winner among tho two-year-olds in Australia. He won at his last three starts in Melbourno, where his victories included a brilliant fluccess in tho V.R.C. Sires' Produce Stakes. Tho ex-New Zealandcr, Ashley Reed, brother of Roy Heed, was engaged to rido Thurlstono in tho Sires' Produco Stakes and it was only on his arrival in Sydney from Melbourno that ho liarned of tho accident.

A DIFFICULT DOUBLE

GREAT EASTER AND AUTUMN. A double that has been won by tho sarno borso in the ono year on only thrco occasion* is tho Great Easter Handicap and Great Autumn Handicap, which tire run annually at tho Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting in April. Ladj Zetland, at nix years old, was tho first to break tho record, but, as sho carried tho handy burdens of 7.12 and 7.10, tliero was nothing of much merit in her performance. Lady Xjillian, who, it is interesting to note, was out of Lady Zetland, won the double at fivo years eld, carrying the respective imposts of 8.0 and 8.12, which placed her dam's feat in tho shade. Tho English-bred horse Grand Knight, who ranked as a five-year-old, achieved tho record in tho races of 192G by winning under tho respectivo imposts of o.:i and 0.4.

Three horses claim the double engagement this year. Red Heckle has been allotted 8.13 in tho Great Easter Handicap and 8.11 in the Great Autumn Handicap. Arikiwai and Gay Crest figure at tho minimum (7.0) in the first-named race, but in tho mile and a-half evont Arikiwai is weighted at 7.6, Gib. in advance of Gay Crest.
