ELLERSLIE GALLOPS.

FEW HORSES EXTENDED.

JAELDY KARO SHOWS SPEED

JUMPERS PROVIDE INTEREST

BY ARCTIER

After overnight showers track conditions were excellent for training operations at Ellerslio yesterday, when the outside of 10 course proper, flags out about. 50ft.. was available for fast work. There wero a good many horses out working, but very few wero extended and 011 the wliolo tie proceedings were not very interesting. Somo interest was provided by tho jumpers, who wero strongly in evidenco, several being schooled over the steeplechase course, which was open for tho first time for somo months. Tho smartest gallop of tho morning was registered by tho two-year-old Jaeldy Karo. who displayed a nice turn of speed over four furlongs; Details of tho work were as follows: COURSE PROPER. First to work were Gold Money and King Emerald, who ran six furlongs ill 1.21 0 5 Gold Money was going particularly well at tho finish and promises to make an early return to tho winning list. Eager Roso and Knwainga wero associated over a mile in 1.50. Eager I?oso vaa -oing tho easier at tho finish and is in great order to tackle her autumn engagements, in which she is likely to givo a good account of herself. Avoncourt (light boy) and Land Measure (McTavish) wero almost on terms tho conclusion of fivo furlongs in 1.0 2-5. These hacks are on the improve and may race creditably at. To Rapa. Avoncourt will bo in her element (ho first limo sho strikes a soft track.

Kuling King covered six furlongs in j 0.1 n.r,, while Neil nnd Tambourino strode over four furlongs, without being extended at any port of tho journey. A pleasing effort was recorded by Hampton Park, who moved with plenty of freedom while running five furlongs in 1.7. Hampton Park was not himself- when he failed at his last start, but ho is very well at present and should race in improved fashion at To Kapa, where he will bo a competitor in tho juvenile handicaps. Cynthia N. was responsible for a useful effort in running six furlongs in 1.21 2-5, and Dark- Prince covered a mile in 1.64. Corinax (McTavish) and Gemlight (Wiggins) were associated over a round in. 2.12 3-fi. Both worked well, Corinax finishing tho stronger. Corinax pulled up better than ho did tho other morning and is improving with every gallop. Bright Land ran his first threo furlongs in 3D -l-5s and was bowling along freely at tho conclusion of a milo in 1.52. lhe imported geldinc has been standing up to bis work well lately and should benefit by tho racing ho is to have at 0o Rapn, whero ho will raco on the flat on tho first day. Jacldy Ivaro gave Wild Country a break and beat her over four furlongs in 51s, Wild Country taking 52 l-ss. Jaeldy Karo is inclined to hang when jumping off to gallop, but ho shows a nico turn of speed onco ho gets into his stride. Good Idea went lazily over six furlongs in 1.27 and Operatic reeled off four furlongs in 51s.

Roman Pearl sprinted four furlongs in 53 3-ss, and Gay Cockade ran the oamo distance in 53 4-ss.

Sir Archie (Conquest) was just in front of Spring Abbey (McTavish) at tho conclusion of six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. 'J hey were both being kicked up to their work at tho finish, where Spring Abbey was hanging on well. Karangapai was better than Arabesque, who tired in the last furlong, over five furlongs in 1.8 2-5, Karangapai is on the upgrade and will be a runner in the juvenile handicaps at Te Rapa. Grand Spirit was going stronger than Foot Rule, with Silene beaten off. at the conclusion of four furlongs in 51 4-ss. Grand Spirit went pleasingly and seems to be coming on again.

Rafflight and Tremetus went nicely over four furlongs in 52 3-ss. Without doing anything exceptional, theso two-year-olds havo been working consistently well and they should at least race respectably in the juvenile handicaps at Te Rapa. Great Emblem was not bustled while running fivo furlongs in 1.10 -1-5. Up to t!io present Great Emblem has only shaped fairly, although ho has lately been showing nioro dash in his work.

THE JUMPERS. E. Kae's St. Amans gelding (Craddock), General Lu (Burgess), Thursby (Olive) and Twinkler (Sharkey) were schooled over hurdles and all jumped safely, Ihursby and Twinkler giving improved displays. Quincoma (Craddock) and Mountain Guide (Sharkey) jumped two hurdles satisfactorily and afterwards covered a round on tho course proper in 2.lfi 1-5, Quincoma being a shado in front at the finish. Odin (Sharkey) and Freyja (Stanway) were schooled over tho steeplechase fences in tho middle. They went 0%-er tho sodwall, double and stonewall in dashing stylo and went again boldly tho second time until Freyja fell heavily at tho first fence of tho double. Odin gave a bold display and Freyjft's fencing was also good until alio fell.

Marita (Burgess), Airtight (EI. Dulieu) and Salamander (McNeill) were sent round over the Bteeplechase fences. Marita gavo a good, clean display of fencing, but tho others did not impress. Airtight ran oIT at tho second fence of tho doublo tho first timo up tho middle and also tried to get off thero when ho enmo over it the second time. Ho also baulked at tho second fenco on tho hill, whoro ho was probably hampered by Salamander, who fell at tho first fenco on the hill. Salamander was remounted and jumped safely until reaching tho stonewall above tho doublo, when ho enmo down heavily.

OFFER FOR PANTHER. Fan'her was under offer to an Australian buyer before going out, to win tho Opaki Handicap at tho Masterton meeting lust Saturday, but no deal resulted. When caught in (ho right mood, Panther can show a lot of speed, but at times does not, gallop generously. Ho has been accepted for in tho Great Easter Handicap at l(iccarton.

STAR GOD IN SYDNEY CUP. Tho five vear-old Star God, a, brother to Star Stranger, was extensively supported in Sydney Inst week for tho Sydney Cup. When raced in New Zealand by Mr. A. B. Williams ho was a disappointment, although ho won three races last season. In Australia last November ho van second to Sandlot in tho Queensland Cup after meeting with considerable trouble in the running. After his return to Sydney ho unexpectedly won a race in suburban company. Subsequently ho wa3 favoured for tho Summer Cup at, the Australian Jockey Club's meeting in Dccembor, but was unplaced. Star God's weight in tho Sydney Cup is 'ISA.
