DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS
NEW PLYMOUTH SCHEME. COUNCIL LETS CONTRACT. [r.V TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] NEW PLYMOUTH. Tuesday. Tenders for a liquefaction chamber and outlet tunnel, part of the New Plymouth Borough Council's sewerage scheme, were considered by the council last evening, and a dbntract at £23,375 was let to S. P. Stacpoole, Auckland. The estimated cost of this section of the work was £27,152. In accepting the tender the council expressed a wish that the contractor should givo preference to local men in gathering his staff for the work, and that married men should be engaged prior to single men. Eight tenders were received for the contract.
