NEEDS OF TAUPO.
PROPOSED THERMAL BATHS. ASSURANCE BY MINISTER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN con RESPONDENT.] TAUPO, Tuesday. The Hon. P. A. do la Pcrrelle, Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts, accompanied by Messrs. C. IT. Cliukard, M.P. for Rotoruu, and Mr. P. Fraser, M.P. for Wellington Central, arrived hero last evening from Rotorua. The Minister received a number of deputations. Mr. R. H. Ward, chairman of the Taupo Road and Domain Boards, outlined the boards' desires in connection with (ho proposed thermal baths ill the (own fcr which Iho Prime Minister had promised financial provision next session. Tho Minister stated that (ho undertaking would bo fulfilled and that he would consult with tho Lands and Public Works Departments as to tho details of the scheme. Mr. Ward also asked that (he flying field known as tho Tauhara Aerodrome bo vested in tho domain board. It had been favourably reported on by a number of pilots who had used it and thero was a demand for hangar accommodation for visiting aeroplanes. The area was Crown land, lying idle, and easy road access was available. In reply to tho Minister Mr. Ward stated that tho board would undertako tu clear (he ground if it was handed over and would then bo able to co-operatc with flying clubs in erecting the necessary accommodation. The Minister said he would confer with tho Ministers of Lands and Defence in (ho matter. Representations were also made that (hat portion of tho main highway running through tho district should bo put down in bitumen. After assuring (lie deputations that tho matters mentioned would bo gone into thoroughly tho Minister'"'stated that arrangements woro well in hand for tho erection of a now and up-to-dato wharf at Taupo to replaco tho present old and inadequate one.
