TROUBLE ON STEAMER.
CHARGE AGAINST TRIMMER
A sequel to the trouble among the crew of the steamer Piako, which was delayed at Auckland this week, was heard in the
Police Court yesterday when a trimmer, Dennis Buckley, denied a charge of deserting from the vessel. An official of the New Zealand Shipping Company said accused had been responsible for much inconvenience. The men on (he vessel said they had a grievance and they were allowed ashore. They were all very drunk, ft, was agreed that two men who were missing should be replaced and the others said they would return on board Two men were secured by about elevon o'clock at night, but in the meantime accused had disappeared and a search of city " doss houses " had to be made to make up the complement. Accused said he had no intention of deserting. He did not think the -two men would be secured that night, and when ho arrived at the wharf at 6.30 neyt morning his ship had gone. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, ordered - accused to pay £2 10s expenses, in default seven days' imprisonment.
