OBSCENE LANGUAGE.
LETTER TO MAGISTRATE.
A WOMAN REMANDED
She need not think she can laugh at the Court like that," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when a married woman, Martha Tucker, of Rimu Street, NewLynn, appeared for sentence in the Police Court yesterday, on three charges of using obscene language. It was stated by the police that accused was remanded a mdnth ago in order to see how' she behaved in the meantime.
The magistrate said the police report was not favourable to accused. He had received a letter from accused and it was full of obscenities. "It only shows what a state your mind is in," lie said to accused. " I will remand you for a week and make some further inquiries." Sub-Inspector McCarthy: Will she be remanded in custody ? The Magistrate: Yes, of course, it may have a good effect upon her.
