A GARDEN SHOW.

The Garden Makers' Circle of the League of Penworrien held a flower competition in their rooms yesterday, which was attended with much success. The members of this circle have been organised for very little more than a year, and their display of flowers was wonderfully good. Of these the roses were the best, and they were closely followed by gladioli. Stock, sweetpeas, antihirrinum, carnations, acquilegia, Canterbury bells, pansies, and other spring flowers were shown, and were judged by Mr. L. Griffiths. The pnzewinners were: Roses, Mrs. Iweedie, 1, and Miss Sweet, 2. Gladioli, Mrs. Austin, 1. Carnations: Mrs. Boyd, 1. Annuals: Mrs. Lcwins, 1. Perennials: Mrs. Stuart Boyd. Mrs. Boyd was also tho winner of the special..prize for the most, points, her prize being a charming water colour'painting. Mr. R. Wilson, the famous daffodil expert, who was present, during the earlier part of the afternoon, gave a brief talk and expressed his great admiration of the. scenic beauties of Nov/ Zealand, 1 and of the wonderful facility with which so manyplants grew in this country. He spoke of the wonderful development that had been, made in the culture of the daffodil, of which the great pioneer had been the Rev. Mr. Englehart. now an old man living in England, and of tho tremendous prowth of the daffodil-growing industry. Helpful advice about, the garden was also given by Mr. Griffiths.
