ONEHUNGA BOWLING CLUB.
The Onehunga Bowling and Croquet Club lawns were in excellent condition on Saturday afternoon, when the official opening for the season took place. Against a vivid blue sky the velvety green of the lawns stood out in bold relief and a further brilliant note of colour was dven by the festoons of (lags which were hung across the pavilion surrounding the word "Welcome." Hanging baskets of maidenhair and asparagus fern were also to be seen in tho pavilion, while the tablo decorations, which were carried out in tho club colours of red and blue, were pai•ticularly attractive, bowls of deep red tulips and bright blue cornflowers being used with pleasing effect. Placed in a conspicuous position on the croquet lawn was tho banner which has been won for nine consecutive years by tho Onehunga Club. The president of tho Bowling Club, Mr. It. Buchanan, welcomed tho large number of visitors, in whom were included members of sister clubs in and around Auckland. Mrs. Buchanan threw the first jack and also put the first ball through tho hoop on tho croquet lawn. Tho greens were then declared open for play. Selections by the Onehunga Band were played and afternoon tea was later served in the pavilion*
