TOTALISATOR RETURNS.
LAST SEASON'S DECLINE
HOPES FOR IMPROVEMENT.
Details of tho falling-off in totalisator revenue at EHerslie during tiie Inst racing season wore given by Sir Edwin Mitcholson, president of tho Auckland Racing C'lub, in his address to members at. tlio annual meeting yesterday. Sir Edwin said that- in tlio 1927-28 season tlio totalisator turnover was £911,605, whereas last season it was £733,02-1, a falling-oft of £128,581. Of that amount £75,000 was lost during the summer meeting, and the unfortunate occurrence r.t tlio spring meeting also had a serious effect on tho totalisator returns.
Tho decrease, in totalisator figures had been felt throughout New Zealand, as was shown by the fact that the falling-off on all racecourses other than trotting had been £686,986. Slightly over one-sixth of {hat amount was lost at Ellerslie. That could not bo considered out of the way, as Ellerslie produced last year over onesixth of the. total turnover. \
The reduction was regretted, hoth trotting as well as racing clubs having been affected, but it was hoped that a return toward more normal conditions would bo experienced at an early date.
