BY ARCHER

GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS.

Besides riding Royal Saxon In the Winter Cup at Riccnrton to-day, A. Tinker will

also huvo the mount on L'ilosol in the Avonhead Handicap. It is. understood that Tinker will only do tho one day at Riccnrton, tifl ho has n fair-sized team in work nt Te Rapa and does not wish to he away from his charges too long now that Home of them ore likely to lie racing in tho near future. ,

A neatly-made two-year-old gelding by Day Comet, from the Bozonian maro Lady Hill has commenced working nt Ellerslie under the direction of his owner. Mr. A. D. Potter. It is not intended to hurry tho youngster and ho will bo allowed to coinc along steadily.

Tho Paper Money, mare Gold Money, who wound up her three-year-old career mostattractively with three successivo victories, continues to move alone Quito smoothly in her work and promises to be in excellent order for early spring racing. As a result of her successes last season, she is now well up in tho weights, hut this may not provelit her from winning in her turn this term.

So far Olranto has failed to show any form in public, hut she has lately displayed signs of being on tho upgrndo and attracted some attention by running tho best gallop at Ellerslio on Saturday, when sho registered a coupio of seconds better than anything else over six furlongs. She is difficult to control in her work and this may bo against her, although sho is very well nt present and should not lack condition for early spring engagements. Otranto is a four-year-old maro by Quin Abbey from Bell Crispin, lienco a full-sister to Boomcrday, Gala Day and Ripon Abbey.

The record of Abbott's Delight last season, when he notched ono third in 13 starts, was not very encouraging, but ho has been doing fairly well in his work lately and may have prospects among (he hnnters at tho Pakuranga Hunt meeting, where ho will probably contest the Hunters' Hurdles. Tho chestnut iB receiving a sound preparation from 11. Jury and should be in capital order at the end of next week. On Saturday ho jumped four hurdles in good stylo and afterwards infused plenty of dash into a sound piece of work on tho sand.

At times Odin is inclined to walk rather scratchily before and after working, but lie is hitting out with plenty of freedom on tho tracks and went very Binoothly in a nice working gallop with Tho Lover on Saturday. lie has not been noticed schooling lately, but he has been accomplishing plenty of useful work and should bo in great heart to contest fho Pnkurunga Hunt Cup, in which he is top weight with 11.3, or 9lb. more than ho carried to victory in the Hunt Club Cup at the Great Northern meeting in June.
