PURITY OF SPEECH.
Sir, —In Saturday's Herald appears another endeavour to maintain a pure diction in Ne%v Zealand. Many such have appeared in the columns of tlie press during tho nearly hilf-cenhiry of my lesidenco in Auckland. "Will" and "shall" have been under review, and elucidation, but there is another, a more glaring case that is very common in speech here, and which I have never seen brought under tho lash of criticism. It must have become so incorporated in the common tongue that even teachers do not sense tho malpractice English village children do not misuse the two words. 'I hey arc "fetch" and "bring." An Auckland boy will almost invariably say "I will fetch it with me," when he meai'3 "I will bring it along." It is a case of misuse of tense. Thos. Dawes
