Sir, —Mr. Vailo says I have admitted "that practical men approve the railway —that in practice it is right, though 111 theory wrong." The first part of the quotation is correct,, the second a misrepresentation. "Some" practical men have approved, others have opposed. Let them fight it out. If practical men do not support themselves by sound theory, their conclusions will not work out in practice. C.H.N.
