" TALKIES " FOR MAJESTIC.
NEW ZEALAND EQUIPMENT. CHANGE OVER THIS MONTH. The number of silent picture theatres in Queen Street will be still further depleted shortly when the Majestic Theatre is equipped for " talkies." It is expected that the wiring and installation of apparatus will be completed nbout the middle of this month, and from then on the Majestic will join the Strand, tho other lMlor-llayward theatre in Queen Street, in showing sound and talking pictures.
Mr. P. H. Hayward said yesterday that (he theatre would be equipped throughout with :. " talkie " installation manu"nctured entirely in New Zealand. Difficulties that had stood in tho way of the use ot this installation had now been overcome, and the producing firms had signified their willingness for their "talkie" productions to be reproduced on it. At present, it, was not. considered likely that the Majestic would retain its orchestra.
The Fuller-Hayward firm had contracts with a number of producing organisations, Mr. Hayward continued, and would not experience any shortage of supplies. Tho "talkie" programmes would be carefully chosen and it was hoped before leng to screen a complete British "talkie ' programme. Tho Hippodrome Theatre, now changed to tho Roxy, is already equipped for "talkies," and when tho installation in the Majestic is completed, the National, Everybody's and Grand will be tho only silent houses in Queen Street.
