ARREST OF A CLERK.
CHARGE OF THEFT MADE. MAN'S NAME SUPPRESSED. Arrested at his home by Detective Nalder yesterday morning, a clerk in the Railways Department, aged 47, was charged in the Police Court in the afternoon with, while ho was clerk iri the employ of the New Zealand Government Railways, stealing £168,' tho property of tho Railways Department. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, remanded accused for a week, on the application of Chief-Detective Hammond. Mr. Townsend asked for the suppression of accused's name. Mr. Hammond stated that restitution had been made, and it seemed probable accused would plead guilty. He opposed suppression.
After counsel had replied that it was not. likely accused would admit the offence, no further objection was raised by Mr. Hammond, and an order was mndo for the suppression of the name. Accused was granted bail in one surety of £2OO.
