DRAINAGE OF LAND.
TIROHIA BOARD'S AREA. WAIHOU RIVER STOPBANK. \ [BY TELEGRAPH. —ITiESS ASSOCIATION. J PAEROA, Sunday. At the first meeting of the newlv-formed Tirohia Drainage Board Mr. W. F. Johnstone was unanimously elected chairman and Mr. W. P. North, secretary and tieasurer. The Minister of Public Works notified that the department would carry out the reconditioning of tlioso drains in the board's district which had been previously cut by the department, on the understanding that subsequent maintenance was carried out by the board. This work would be done by a dragline dredge which would be transferred to tho work at a suitable dale. The probable date of commencement was the end of September. As the Kuaoiti Stream was not a portion of the Waihou and Ohinemuri lliver improvement' works, improvements to tho stream would have to be arranged at the cost of the settlers concerned. A resolution was carried that a telegram be sent, to the Minister strongly urging tho immediate strengthening of the Waihou River stopbank, as it was in a very precarious condition at certain places.
