BUTTER SHIPMENTS.

LARGE AUCKLAND QUOTA. THREE-QUARTERS OF TOTAL. ALLOTMENTS FOR TWO MONTHS. Comparatively small shipments of dairy produce will be leaving Now Zealand for British markets in tho i.ext two months, but of tho total butter exports Auckland will again send tho lion's share. Production in tho winter months is always low, but in theso milder northern climes thcro is not the sumo drastic check on output as operates in the South. In tho next two months three out of every four boxes of butter scut from New Zealand will bo shipped at Auckland. This proportion is the more remarkable as the next four steamers scheduled for overseas will lift no butter or clieeso from this port. Tho Auckland allotment is 115,000 boxes cut of tho Dominion aggregate of 154,000 boxes, or almost 75 per cent. Clieeso production has never been so largo a factor in tho Auckland dairy industry and Auckland's quota in the latest allotments is only 9200 crates out of a total of 63,400 crates, or about 14 per cent. In addition to the latest allotments tho steamer Kent is at present at Auckland and is set down to lift 23,400 boxes of butter and 4500 crates of cheese from this port. Her total allotment is 43,400 boxes and 16,800 crates, a large dairy shipment for tho timo of year. Following aro details of tlio allotments, tho tablo showing the date of departure of steamers from T ew Zealand, tho due dato of arrival in tho United Kingdom and the number of boxes of butter and crates of choose to be shipped from Auckland, and the total from all Dominion ports. LOADING DIFFICULTIES. ADVICE BY DAIRY BOARD. The question of shipment of produce to Halifax under sale contracts which call for shipment during specified months has been discussed with tho Overseas Shipowners' Allotment Committee, states a circular from the Dairy Produce Board. Shippers iu this Dominion must all be conversant with tho many loading difficulties encountered on this coast, _ over some of which the shipowners exercise no control. Inclement weather and roadstead loadings are two such problems bearing upon any vessel's adherence to time-table date. For the last season, shipments to Halifax called for space allocations to as many as nine ports in tho Dominion in one steamer, nil for loading during one particular calendar month. While the Shipowners' Committee inform tho board that it will during tho coming season, as in tho past, endeavour to meet all the requirements of the trade, if would bo advisable that shippers should not enter into contracts guaranteeing shipment in any particular month, as shipowners cannot undertake to have vessels available at every port during each month. Contracts should therefore, if possible, bo made giving a range of two months during which shipment may be made. If exporters acquainted their Canadian clientele of tho conditions governing shipments in this Dominion and pointed out the difficulties of catering for all the ports desirous of participating in this trade: also, that as'far as shipping spaco is concerned all exporters aro placed on an equal basis, and that at least ono steamer a month will cater for this trade, tlio board considars tho difficulties of all concerned will bo greatly reduced. The board therefore advises those now making application for spaco reservations that each application will be handed to tho Overseas Shipowners' Committee for consideration, and when confirmed it will bo a proviso that spaco booked is subject to tho conditions enumerated above. That is to say that every effort will bo made to give shipment in the month desired, although no guarantee can be given that shipment will be available at any particular port in a specified month, particularly so when exporters arc making sales and applying for spaco several months ahead. These remarks also apply to forward sales for Great Britain, though on account of there being so many steamers loading each month for this destination the difficulty of meeting shippers' requirements is not so great. The board also draws (ho attention of factories to the fact that sold produce cannot claim priority of shipment merely because certain quantities aro required to complete contracts.
