NORTH ISLAND CONFERENCE.

SCHEME FOR SUPERANNUATION,

A conference of secretaries of North Island agricultural and pastoral associations was held iu Auckland last evening. Seven delegates attended, the president, Mr. H. S. JL Quiglev, of Dannevirke, occupying the chair. In welcoming the delegates tho president referred to the good results which the secretaries' association was achieving in bringing its members into closer touch with agricultural and pastoral associations as well as with farmers and exhibitors generally.

Officers were elected as follows:—Presi. dent, Mr. L. H. Smart (Wairarapa); secretary, Mr. R. 11. Williams (Masterton); delegates to North Island Agricultural and Pastoral Association's conference, Messrs. R. H. Williams and W. F. O'Donnell; executive, Messrs. L. 11. Smart, I!. 11. Williams, H. S. M. Qnigley (Dannevirkc) and W. T. Penny .(Palmerston North).

Appreciation was recorded of tho invaluable work done iu tho interests of tho association by the retiring president, Mr. Quigley.

A recommendation to the North Island Agricultural and Pastoral Association's conference to day was carried, urging that association secretaries should visit other shows as often as possible, and suggesting that the expenses incurred should be met by their associations. A scheme for the superannuation of secretaries was adopted for submission to the conference. The chairman stated that the proposals provided for an endowment policy to which the secretary would pay 5 per cent, of his salary, subsidised by a similar amount by the association employing him. There were 14 associations which had promised (o consider the scheme favourably. Mr. O'Donnell detailed what was being done by the Auckland Association in ofiicially licensing showmen. This had resulted in a big improvement in the conduct of that section of tho shows. The conference passed a resolution asking Mr. O'Donnell to prepare a report upon the matter.

Later the delegates paid a visit to the Winter Exhibition.
