WHANGAREI HOSPITAL.
TREATING PNEUMONIA CASES
A REASSURING REPORT
[nr TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI, Tuesday.
A number of deaths from pneumonia and influenza have occurred during the winter months at tho Whangarci District "Hospital, and this position evoked some discussion when tho medical superintendent's report was beforo flic board yesterday.
A motion thai; tiie superintendent be asked to table a report was adopted. The medical superintendent, Dr. J. W. Hall, who was absent when tho discussion took place, later tabled a ■ comprehensive report, showing admissions duo to and deaths from pneumonia during tho past tlireo years. "If tho board or public are in any way perturbed theso figures should alleviate any worry on the subject," he said. "It will bo seen that the death rato in Whangarci is by no means excessive. In fact, tho rovcrso is proved. There is always room for improvement, in ward accommodation and facilities will bo improved when the old men are removed from tho medical ward balcony, which will be used for housing pneumonic cases. Ido not consider for a moment (hat patients suffered from any want of facilities."
All members heartily agreed that the superintendent's report was most satisfactory and would tend to allay public misapprehension on tho subject.
