SOUTH AFRICAN JAM.

GROWERS SEEK EMBARGO.

A SERIOUS - COMPETITOR.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESIS ASSOCIATION.!} MOTUEKA, Thursday. A deputation representing the small fruitgrowers of the Motueka and Riwaka districts asked the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, to-day to place an embargo on the importation of jams and fruits from South Africa, which, it was stated, had become a serious competitor of local growers. Figures were quoted showing that although no jam was imported in 1925 the importations last year were valued at £11,359. • The Prime Minister said he could see that the matter was important. He would confer with his colleagues and see if practical attention to meet the position could be found.
