BREAKDOWN OF TRAIN.
GUARD USES-MOTOR-CAR,
PASSENGERS REACH DESTINATION [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] CHRISTCHUKCH, Thursday. In spite of the fact that the engine of the Methven train refused to move 'this morning when it was called upon to pull out of the station, the passengers and mails were able to make their connection at Hakaia with the train from Ashburton.
When the guard found that there seemed little chance of his train getting away, he left it to the engine crew while he went to his home alongside the station and produced his motor-car. The Methven line is not usually overburdened v[ith passengers, and after calling at all stations between Methven and Rakaia the guard's motor-car was just comfortably full of travellers and mail.
